Producers
Some history... The "Associazione ticinese produttori di latte" (Ticino's association of milk producers) was founded on 17th December 1916 to "protect the rights of members, establish and maintain good collaboration among them, and cooperate in supplying the population with milk and its products". Those were difficult times: "Protesters assault central dairy ", reported a local newspaper in March 1918 in a vivid account of the unrest caused by anger over the end of home milk delivery and inefficient dairies. Providentially the initiative of the Association founders brought about a net improvement of the situation that contributed to appeasing the protests. In 1920 the “Latteria (dairy) Luganese” was founded, followed in ’22 by the “Latteria di Locarno” and, in ’34, by the Mendrisio dairy. That same year the association of milk producers became the Federazione ticinese produttori di latte (FTPL, Federation of milk producers of Ticino). On 26th July 1969 the FTPL delegate assembly decide to merge local dairies into the Federation. The new central dairy in S. Antonino that started its operations in September 1992, was the first step towards modern-day LATI.
