Who we are

The Federazione Ticinese dei Produttori di Latte (Ticino Milk Producers Federation), also known as LATI, is a real “agribusiness group”. Besides milk processing and distribution, still constituting its core business, LATI includes fodder and flour company FELA; IMFE, a modern pig farming industry , and the wine growers of CANTINA GIUBIASCO SA.
Established more than 90 years ago as an association of milk producers, LATI started out by setting up a series of dairy shops in Ticino. In the late 70’s LATI purchased land in Sant’Antonino to build today’s modern central dairy with the aim to streamline production and logistics. The central dairy opened in 1992.
In time LATI developed its product range from the classic dairy products such as of yoghurt and milk to the current stock of three main product lines: consumer milk, semi-hard, soft and fresh cheeses.
If most of its milk is still sold to local consumers, LATI has gained new markets in the cheese sector, moving on to target the entire Swiss domestic market. Today LATI collects milk from 240 out of 387 milk producers of Ticino. LATI processes 16 million litres of milk per year, employs approximately 100 staff and has a yearly turnover of CHF 51 million.
LATI was awarded the ISO9011 product quality certification; ISO 14001 for environmental management, and the OHSAS 18001 certification for workplace safety. LATI is one of the very few companies in Ticino to have the three certifications.
In the last two years LATI adapted its strategy to meet new challenges in a rapidly evolving environment. The company intends to invest in products with more added value than simple consumer milk, therefore focusing on cheese making, with the creation of new products.
LATI’s mid-term goal is to invest on foreign markets, especially in neighboring countries such as Italy and Germany but also in the USA. Consolidating its presence in the Swiss domestic market is still, however, a crucial part of LATI’s objectives.
